Principal Responsibilities:
Position Overview
The Stamford JCC is seeking a passionate and skilled Reformer Pilates Instructor to join our dynamic fitness team at the Julius B. Kuriansky Fitness Center. This position combines the personal training expertise with specialized Pilates instruction, delivering exceptional fitness experiences to our diverse member community.
Key Responsibilities
Pilates Instruction & Personal Training
- Provide safe, effective reformer Pilates instruction for individual clients and small group classes (maximum 6 participants)
- Conduct private, semi-private, and group reformer sessions using proper form and safe methods
- Design and deliver personalized Pilates programs that address individual client goals, limitations, and fitness levels
- Demonstrate and teach proper use of reformer equipment, including springs, straps, carriage, and accessory props
Equipment Management & Safety
- Visually inspect all reformer equipment prior to each session to ensure safe working condition
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe workout environment in accordance with JCC standards
- Ensure proper setup and breakdown of equipment for each client and class
- Report any equipment maintenance needs promptly to fitness management
Client Relationship & Program Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through exceptional customer service and professional communication
- Assess client posture, movement patterns, and fitness goals to create effective program progressions
- Provide modifications and progressions for clients with varying abilities, injuries, or special considerations
- Track client progress and adjust programming to ensure continued advancement and engagement
Business Development & Community Engagement
- Actively participate in member retention and new client acquisition through exceptional service delivery
- Collaborate with fitness team to support studio promotions and community events
- Maintain professional development through continuing education and training opportunities
- Support JCC mission by creating welcoming, inclusive experiences for all community members
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Comprehensive Pilates Certification with minimum 450-500 hours of training, including reformer, mat, and apparatus work
- Current Personal Training Certification from NASM, ACSM, ACE, or equivalent nationally recognized organization
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (adult/child/infant) or willingness to obtain within 30 days
- Demonstrated experience with reformer instruction on Balanced Body or similar equipment
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience teaching Pilates in a fitness or studio environment
- Proven ability to work with diverse populations, including beginners, seniors, and clients with physical limitations
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and movement principles as they relate to Pilates methodology
- Excellent verbal communication and cueing skills with ability to provide clear, motivating instruction
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Training & Specializations
- Additional certifications in mat Pilates or other Pilates apparatus[
- Experience with special populations including prenatal, post-rehabilitation, or senior fitness
- Background in dance, gymnastics, or other movement disciplines
- Continuing education in related modalities such as barre, TRX, or functional movement
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with fitness management software and scheduling systems
- Knowledge of business development and client retention strategies in boutique fitness environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to demonstrate exercises and provide hands-on assistance to clients
- Capability to lift and move equipment up to 25 pounds
- Stamina to teach multiple classes and sessions throughout the day
- Visual acuity to assess client movement patterns and ensure proper form
- Clear speaking voice and ability to project instruction in group settings
