Executive Director– This position is the chief professional in the JCC. Sometimes called the Chief Executive Officer or President, this position provides leadership for the future and oversight of the JCC facility and complement of programs. The successful candidate must have outstanding interpersonal skills, be an innovative manager and a dedicated advocate of the JCC's mission. This position reports to the board of directors.
Associate/Assistant Executive Director – The Associate/Assistant Executive Director is sometimes called the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and reports directly to the Executive Director. This is usually the number two professional in the agency. S/He has the primary responsibility for day-to-day operations and growth of the JCC programs, services, and facility as well as developing and implementing clear action plans and systems needed to address operations, challenges and opportunities. This position has supervisory responsibilities to the Program Director, Health and Recreation Director, Early Childhood Director, Camp Director, Office Manager and Facility Manager and other department heads.
Program Director – Often the third key professional in a JCC, this position oversees and supervises a number of program departments and full time staff. Program Directors often have budget development and implementation responsibilities and may be the key staff person responsible for volunteer leadership and departmental committees.
Chief Financial Officer – is often called the Director of Finance and is responsible for the financial oversight of the JCC. This position may supervise a controller, payroll, payable and receivables, and all fiscal operations of the JCC. This position is often the staff liaison to the finance committee of the board.
Membership Director – is responsible for all membership sales for the facility. This position would develop and direct strategic sales efforts, create sales plans, promotions, and productivity targets. The membership director may be responsible for special community wide events highlighting membership opportunities, as well as campus tours and follow up on leads generated. The membership director works closely with the marketing department to promote the JCC in the community. S/he also oversees the development and attainment of annual membership revenue goals and of strategies for recruitment and retention of new members and corporate memberships.
Marketing Director – Develops the marketing strategy for the agency and works with JCC staff to develop and produce any necessary marketing content and materials for all media which may include electronic, print, video, mobile and broadcast. Handles communications including, public relations, publicity needs, and social media. Oversees and coordinates with JCC staff all communications with membership, prospects, donors and outside interests.
Development and Campaign Director – is responsible for all fundraising efforts on behalf of the JCC, including the annual campaign, grant writing (identification and application), soliciting major gifts, planned giving and special events.
Early Childhood Director - articulates and supervises the implementation of the vision for all of the JCC's early childhood programs for infants through age 5. An essential role of the Director is to implement core values, vision and purpose and to articulate these concepts with teachers and parents. The director is responsible for design and implementation of an integrated, Jewish, developmentally appropriate curriculum in an environment which maximizes the opportunities for growth and enrichment. In addition the director fosters a nurturing and engaging atmosphere which reflects respect and compassion that is supportive of and accessible to children, families and staff.
Youth Director - depending on the JCC, this position is responsible for oversight and implementation of programs and services for children in grades K-5 and 6-8, including after school programs, school vacation programs, family programs, special events, enrichment classes and more. Sometimes called the Director of Children's Services, this professional also plays a leadership role in summer program and summer camp.
Teen Director - is responsible for the development and operation of all programs for teens including vacation week camps, school's out activities, Afterschool Programs, Teen Dances, Family Programs, Teen Trips, college prep programs and more. This position will supervise, program and develop programs within the Teen Lounge and oversee a Jewish teen leadership program.
Camping – Staff who work at JCCs may be responsible for supervising Day Camp or working at the JCC’s resident camp. Summer at the JCC may include a day camp located at the JCC building and grounds or operated at an off-site facility. Responsibilities of these positions include overseeing all programming, supervision of seasonal staff and facility as well as year round recruitment of campers. The camp director develops and implements the camp budget. This position may be full time year round at the JCC or seasonal. It may be part of a full time youth or teen director position’s responsibilities.
Adult Director – staff in this position at the JCC may oversee segments of the Adult population (young adults, newly retired, older adults etc.) or may supervise all aspects of Adult Programming. The Adult Director is responsible for developing programs, trips, entertainment, enrichment classes for adults in the community. This may also include Jewish Education and Arts and Culture programming.
Jewish Educator – is the primary position responsible for creating and implementing Jewish programming. This may include classes, workshops, holiday celebrations and commemorations, community wide events and may act as a liaison to the greater Jewish Community and other Jewish organizations. This position works with all areas of the JCC to enrich Jewish programming and infuse Jewish education.
Sports and Wellness – often this department and staff cover a wide variety of specialties including fitness, aquatics, recreational sports and wellness programming. This department is responsible for the facility and programming in the gymnasium, swimming pools, fields, courts and weight rooms. Classes and programs range from infant through older adults, may include sports leagues, group exercise, private lessons and open recreation.
