Summary

The Springfield Jewish Community Center (JCC) is a welcoming and vibrant presence in western Massachusetts on the Longmeadow/Springfield line. The JCC offers programs for all ages, including preschool, youth and teen programs, adult programs, senior adult life programs, and is home to the JCC Health & Fitness Center. The JCC is at the center of a multigenerational community where everyone is welcome. The JCC seeks a CEO who is an energetic, visionary, and creative leader; a professional who possesses excellent strategic and management skills with a proven track record in fundraising and community building.The CEO will build on the successes of the past while enabling the JCC to enter a new era in meeting current and future opportunities. The CEO must be skilled at developing and leading a staff team as well as a cadre of devoted and engaged volunteer leaders. The CEO position is available in the Fall of 2020.

The CEO will be a warm and engaging leader who is accessible and listens to all viewpoints, demonstrates confidence and a positive approach. The CEO must be a highly accomplished relationship builder, comfortable with all levels of constituencies from the most seasoned lay leaders to new young leadership, professional staff, general members and those not yet engaged. A forward thinking, energetic individual, the CEO will promote a culture of innovation and be a change agent to create on-going excitement for the JCC in the community.

Presents Visionary and Strategic Leadership

The CEO will promote an all-encompassing and compelling vision that captures the energy of the JCC and robust, engaged and involved community going forward. The CEO will actively engage with other Jewish and general community organizations, working to support existing collaborative programs and to envision new ways to work together. The CEO must see the big picture - managing current issues while thinking long term.

Proven Ability in Fundraising and Resource Development

The CEO must engage and steward donors and seek gifts of significance. Entrepreneurial and attuned to donor interests and concerns, the CEO will direct cutting edge practices in donor development to enhance and improve the communitys potential. Highly visible in the community, the CEO will reach out and cultivate new potential donors at all levels.

Displays Sound Staff Management Skills

The CEO will create a culture of positivity and productivity in the work environment, inspiring, engaging and empowering the professional staff of the JCC. Through selecting, developing and motivating staff, the CEO will foster innovation, teamwork and collaboration to ensure that best practices and cutting-edge programs are the norm.

Demonstrates Skill in Operational Management

The CEO provides leadership to all aspects of the JCC operations and is responsible for the day-to-day management and security of the JCC. This includes an understanding of the physical plant, technical support systems and running the various businesses of the JCC. Visibility and responsiveness to members is a strong value. The CEO will be decisive in action, adaptable and accountable.

Displays Financial Acumen

The CEO will oversee all financial matters including annual and long-term budgeting, ongoing financial performance and financial strategy.The CEO will work with the Board and the finance committee to develop a realistic budget and work to ensure that revenues and expenses are consistent with the budget approved by the Board.

About the Springfield JCC

Since 1896, including 65 years in its current location, the JCC has been the Springfield Jewish community's central address for meeting the social, recreational and cultural needs of the Jewish community. The JCC currently has an annual operating budget of$6 million. The JCCs 80,000 sq. ft. facility, which has been updated with numerous additions and renovations over the years, sits on 23 acres of land.The JCCs facilities for children and families includes an onsite day camp with a low and high ropes course, three outdoor playgrounds, an indoor playscape, multiple classrooms, a crafts room and an auditorium. The Early Learning Center (ELC) is an award-winning program with 160 children ranging in age from infants to age 5.Many of the ELC classes have had wait lists over the last year.The ELC is a participating center in the JCC Association Sheva program. The J operates after school programs on-site and for a neighboring town. In addition, the Center is home to a significant youth theater program and hosts the local BBYO chapter. One of the exemplary programs at the J is the Kehillah Department which provides social, recreational, and enrichment programs for children, teens, and adults with special needs. The Springfield JCC welcomes people of all abilities and creates a space for all. Through social groups, recreational classes, adaptive aquatics and our fully inclusive summer camp, people of all abilities are part of the J community. The Kehillah Department serves nearly 500 individuals annually.

Fitness facilities include a 4,000 sq. ft. fitness center with the latest equipment, studios for cycling, aerobics and functional fitness, racquetball and squash courts, a rock-climbing wall, a gymnasium, indoor pool (recognized as one of the best in western Massachusetts), an active pickle ball program, outdoor tennis and basketball courts. The JCC has a highly regarded adult and cultural arts program and until the pandemic, a growing domestic and international travel program. The JCC currently enjoys over 1,700 units of membership.The JCC is financially sound, with committed and engaged lay leadership, a talented staff and outstanding programming.

The mission of the JCC is to enrich the community and to nurture wellness through physical, intellectual, social and spiritual programs and services. The JCC is guided by Jewish values, welcoming and respecting people of all abilities, ages, backgrounds, identities and faiths. The Springfield JCC strives to be a home for an engaged and ever-expanding membership which celebrates the uniqueness of every constituent. The JCC will provide an atmosphere which nurtures public conversation about important concerns within the Jewish community, the Greater Springfield community and the world. Individuals and families in all stages of their lives will be inspired to learn and explore Jewish values, ideas and culture. By recognizing emerging needs and developing innovative and outstanding programs and services, the JCC will enhance and enrich the lives of our members and community.

The JCC is in the middle of a capital campaign to renovate the entire facility and add 10,000 sq. ft. to the fitness facility, with $4.1 million in committed pledges. Prior to this, an endowment campaign in 2007 raised $5.5 million.


About the City of Springfield

Springfield MA is located in the Pioneer Valley on the banks of the Connecticut River, with easy access to southern Vermont (1.5-2 hours), the Berkshires (1 hour) which has numerous cultural activities such as Tanglewood - the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hartford (30 minutes), Boston (1.5 hours) and New York (2.5 hours). It is close to beaches and mountains, with opportunities for skiing, hiking, kayaking and biking.
