Principal Responsibilities:

The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island is currently accepting applications for part-time positions for: SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGAURD. We are looking for motivated team players comfortable working in a structured environment. Our members provide our community fitness center with dedicated clientele, and we encourage a strong customer service focus in our team.

The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island located in Providence's beautiful East Side provides its members with quality educational and social programs and services, has a recently redesigned fitness facility, and a thriving aquatic community with a RIMA certified competitive team.

This position is looking to fill Monday-Friday 5:30am-3:00pm guarding and 4:00-7:00pm teaching with occasional weekends required.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Enforce all pool rules and aquatics center and Jewish Alliance policies
  2. Follow swim lesson progression guidelines
  3. Arrive punctually for all lessons
  4. Maintain a consistent work schedule where you always exceed members' expectations
  5. Excellent communication with the parents of swimmers as well as all members and staff
  6. Provide motivation, encouragement and positive energy to each student in each lesson.
  7. Submit proper administrative paperwork for all payroll accurately and timely
  8. Track of each client's swim lessons and fee payments
  9. Actively participate in department meetings
  10. Assist in the development, implementation and marketing of innovative swim programs
  11. Active participation in meetings and training programs including in-service training; maintain current Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED certification
  12. Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatics center
  13. Notify Aquatics manager or a manager of any accidents, rescues, or problems that have arisen, or equipment in need of repair
  14. Create practice schedules
  15. Understand and anticipate the needs of members; be attentive, listen carefully and follow up
  16. Maintain a clean, safe work environment
  17. Enforce the rules and policies of the Jewish Alliance Center

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will possess the following skills, abilities and experience:

  1. Current with research in learn-to-swim skills, competitive swim techniques and childhood development
  2. Current certifications in lifeguarding, CPR for the professional rescuer, first aid, and AED
  3. Water Safety Instructor Certification (Preferred)
  4. Requires proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques
  5. Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid, recognize hazardous situations, and adopt effective courses of action
  6. Ability to properly extract victims from the water to the pool deck
  7. Require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors
  8. Mobility around and in the pool
  9. Effective communication skills and engage positively with membership
  10. Excellent communication with employees, members, and guests
  11. Enthusiastic, friendly attitude and professional appearance
  12. Reliable team player with the ability to work under pressure and multitask
  13. A flexible schedule and the ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  14. Ability to stand for long periods of time
  15. Some experience necessary in instructing
