Principal Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director- Inclusion and Counseling is responsible for building a vibrant Jewish community by guiding inclusive practices, specifically overseeing campers and staff care and the well-being of the diverse BB Camp community. Responsibilities include but are not limited to training, developing relevant strategies, and communicating with parents and staff on behaviors related to disabilities, including individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical and/or sensory disabilities. The Assistant Director- Inclusion and Counseling will ensure extra staff support or accommodations are provided to campers to be successful at Camp. Duties include camper recruitment, screening, intake and orientation, case management, program development and implementation, caring for the well-being of campers and staff, evaluation and intervention, developing and implementing inclusion staff training, parent communication, reporting, record keeping, and information collection. The Assistant Director- Inclusion and Counseling is responsible for supervising Younger, Middle, and Older summer camp units and providing support to teen units.
Essential Functions
School Year Responsibilities include:
- Assist in developing and implementing a strategy for the recruitment of new campers and the retention of current campers, including in-direct and direct outreach and communication with prospective and current families; travel will be necessary.
- Assist in developing and implementing a strategy for the recruitment of new staff and the retention of current staff, including in-direct and direct outreach and communication with prospective and current staff; travel will be necessary.
- Assist with the development and implementation of inclusive policies and practices.
- Train, develop relevant strategies, and communicate with parents and staff on behaviors related to disabilities, including individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical and/or sensory disabilities. (Examples include Autism Spectrum Disorder, blindness, Down syndrome, hard of
- hearing, seizures, and other physical disabilities) to ensure extra staff support or accommodations are provided to campers to be successful at Camp.
- Create engagement and learning opportunities for parents, children, and teens.
- Implement an intake process to determine the needs of each individual camper with special accommodations needed.
- Assist in developing and implementing a strategy for recruiting, hiring, and training summer camp staff, with a focus on Inclusion.
- Develop Individualized Camper Plans (ICP) for overnight campers and work with summer staff to ensure implementation of each ICP.
- Assist in the development of ICPs for day campers and serve as an inclusion resource for BB Day Camps.
- Assist in developing and implementing additional camp programs focused on participants with disabilities.
- Implement a tracking and documentation system of care and well-being of all campers and staff.
- Report and track all grants related to Inclusion.
- Communicate with parents before, during, and after each summer, sharing updates, problem-solving together, and enabling long-term success for campers.
- Ensure compliance with grants and contracts with various funders with varied guidelines, rules, programs, and reporting requirements.
- In collaboration with the Associate Overnight Camp Director, create and manage parts of the Bnai Brith Camp budget and provide regular budget projections, as required.
- Create and maintain cooperative relationships with community partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Summer Responsibilities include:
- Assist in planning and executing staff training and staff development.
- Supervise, support, and evaluate Unit Heads and Unit Leaders (Inclusion Counselors), including regular supervisory meetings.
- Supervise unit(s) in absence of Unit Head(s).
- Ensure the welfare of campers and the resolution of all camper-related issues daily.
- Mentor and assist Unit Heads and Unit Leaders (Inclusion Counselors) in behavior and special needs management and accommodations of campers with their direct reports.
- Work with Camp staff team to ensure daily welfare of campers and the resolution of all camper-related issues.
- Create and implement staff activities and trainings throughout the summer to promote positive staff culture, professional development, and personal growth.
- Ensure Individualized Camper Plans (ICP) are implemented.
- Monitor and create systems for sensory spaces on Camp.
- Supervise all programs on Camp related specifically to Inclusion and campers with disabilities.
- Implement a system of tracking and documentation of care and well-being of all campers and staff.
- Communicate with parents before, during, and after each summer, sharing updates, problem-solving together, and enabling long-term success for campers at Camp.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- Masters degree in social work, psychology, or special education, with experience in Jewish camping or similar non-profit work, preferred. Bachelors degree will be considered.
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate effectively with several different stakeholders (parents, counselors, unit supervisors, medical staff, camp administration, etc.)
- Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience with program development and implementation.
- Familiarity and comfort with Jewish values and traditions.
- Prioritizes inclusivity within the work that is produced.
- Ability to be flexible and manage change.
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully pass criminal background check and, if applicable, fingerprinting.
- Must be able to pass the pre-employment reference checks.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen.
- Must be able to provide a copy of his/her own social security card for W-4 documentation.
- Must be able to provide applicable documentation(s) for I-9 in order to establish identity and authorization to work in the US.
- Must have valid driver's license, personal automobile liability insurance, and acceptable driving record.
