Principal Responsibilities:
Camp Yachad's Skills Training Program is a paid, supported employment program designed for young adults (entering 10th grade and older) with disabilities and/or higher levels of need. Participants in this program are hired as Assistant Specialists and work alongside camp Specialists in areas such as arts, sports, yoga, music, and other program areas while developing both vocational and social skills. The program emphasizes work-readiness skills, responsibility, independence, collaboration, communication, social-emotional growth and increased independence in work and community settings. The Skills Training Program is rooted in inclusion, mentorship, and real-world learning within the dynamic environment of camp.
Summary of Position:
The Director of the Skills Training Program is a hands-on leader who is responsible for daily program oversight, mentorship, and actively teaching vocational and workplace social skills to teens and young adults with disabilities in a camp-based work environment. This role combines program leadership with consistent, on-the-ground engagement, supporting participants as they develop workplace readiness, social skills, and independence. Throughout the camp day, the Skills Training Director actively circulates among specialty areas, providing coaching, feedback, and real-time support while modeling professional behavior, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. A core responsibility of this role is offering social skills guidance, including support with communication, flexibility, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, collaboration and performance feedback. The Skills Training Director partners closely with Specialists and Leadership to ensure participants receive consistent support and meaningful work experience. The ideal candidate is calm, approachable, and highly organized, with the ability to balance structure and flexibility in a fast-paced camp setting. This role requires strong judgment, adaptability, and a genuine passion for youth development and inclusive workforce training.
This is a seasonal, full-time, overtime exempt position supervised by the Director of Camp Yachad and supported by the Director of Inclusion and Diversity. This position requires occasional off-site trips.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily leadership and supervision to Assistant Specialists within a camp-based work environment
- Lead daily morning meetings to review schedules, set goals, reinforce expectations, teach skills and support group cohesion
- Model professional workplace behaviors including communication, teamwork, responsibility, and problem solving
- Provide ongoing social skills coaching and guidance, including support with communication, flexibility, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution
- Monitor participants in their work placements and offer real-time feedback, coaching, and support as needed
- Collaborate with camp Specialists and Leadership to ensure meaningful, appropriate, and supportive work experiences
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Assistant Specialists
- Communicate with families regarding program expectations, participant progress, and areas of growth
- Identify challenges proactively and implement individualized supports or interventions when necessary
- Maintain documentation within our HIPAA compliant software system
- Support the overall operation of the Camper Care Team, as needed
- Attend and participate in all pre-camp trainings
- Lead certain sessions during staff training
- Participate in camp activities and be an involved member of the staff
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner
- Be a leader and represent our camp values
- Be present and engaging during the camp day

Salary Range: $7,500-$9000 for 8 weeks depending on degree, experience, and licensure (if applicable)
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree or certification in Special Education, Vocational/Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work/Counseling, Transition Specialist, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience working with high school age or older individuals with disabilities
- Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
- Ability to lead and deescalate during challenging situations and behaviors
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals of all ages, abilities and backgrounds
- Ability to accept guidance and feedback and make immediate changes
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills in a variety of camp settings
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Handle With Care certification preferred but not required
Physical Demands:
- Work outside for 8 hours in summer weather across a varying terrain
- Potential lifting, bending, sitting on floor, walking, running throughout the camp day
- Stand and walk most of the day moving from activity to activity, and group to group
