Principal Responsibilities:
POSITION: Controller
DEPARTMENT: Finance and Administration
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial & Administrative Officer
SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for the company's accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, internal auditing, and budgetary controls
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop internal control guidelines, policies and procedures for budget, accounting, cash, and credit management
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
- Coordinate and direct budgeting and financial planning
- Create budgets and forecasts
- Coordinate year end audits
- Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance
- Analyze investment account activity and prepare journal entry to recognize investment gains and losses
- Maintain, analyze, and summarize general ledger accounts
- Monitor month end closing process and prepare monthly financial reports
- Distribute departmental financial reports internally and work with department personnel to analyze variances
- Monitor cash balances and wire transfer activity
- Monitor use of agency credit card and petty cash
- Develop chart of accounts as needed
- Assist CFAO in preparation of materials for Finance and Audit Committees
- Oversee Form 990 and CHAR500 preparation and filing
- Maintain vendor and customer relations
- Prepare and distribute Form 1099 and associated Form 1096
- Supervise accounting staff
- Work on special projects as needed

Salary Range: $110,000-$125,000 Annually

Minimum Qualifications:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or Business Administration
- 7+ years of successful experience in the role of Controller (or equivalent) in the not-for-profit industry
- Certified Public Accountant designation strongly preferred
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles especially as they pertain to not-for-profit accounting
- Proficiency in the use of Abila Accounting Software desired
- Proficiency in the use of Excel required
- Excellent management and supervisory skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- This position is based in New York City with the expectation of regular work in the office. There is the possibility of occasional remote work as circumstances dictate
Salary:
$110-125,000
