Principal Responsibilities:
Swim Instructors are responsible for conducting swim lessons to various participants and groups of different ages, abilities, and demographics including but not limited to: parent/child, group lessons, private lessons and adult lessons. Swim instructors must be proficient in the skill levels they are teaching as well as comfortable demonstrating each skill as needed. They must be prepared with a lesson plan, able to comfortably maintain control of the participants for safety, and provide a friendly, inviting, and educational environment.
- Primary: Provides quality swim lesson curriculum that is easy to understand, promotes growth and provides an enjoyable experience to the participant(s).
- Ability to adapt to participant(s) needs based on ability & objectives
- Assess learning needs of participant(s)
- Model appropriate teaching methods and instructor skills
- Ensures lessons meet level goals, objectives, safety while striving to prevent accidents and maintain discipline.
- Maintain adequate supervision at all times during in-water skill sessions
- Evaluate participants as they perform skills providing timely, positive and corrective feedback to encourage growth
- Communicated regularly with participant(s), parents, as appropriate, to further progress. Respond in a timely manner to all forms of correspondence from parents, leadership staff, and fellow staff members.
- Complete records and reports as required
- Keep Aquatics Director, or designee informed of any problems that may arise with members, clients, other staff or facility operations.
- Secondary:
- Provides immediate & appropriate emergency care as required until the arrival of emergency medical services are able to take over
- Provides backup to primary responders in the event of an emergency when not on active surveillance duty
- Alerts Aquatics Director or designee to dangerous conditions at the time condition is found; closes area until situation can be corrected.
- Enforces all pool rules & regulations in a polite and fair manner
- Attends all in-service training, maintains accurate availability & communicates with leadership staff in a timely manner when issues may arise
- Swim Instructors are expected to teach at least (2) lessons per pay period
- Tertiary: All other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director or designee to provide a friendly, inviting, innovative and educational environment to be enjoyed by all who attend
Minimum Qualifications:
- 16 years of age
- Possess a current valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.
- Possess a current Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification and Administering emergency 02 or obtain within 90 days of hire
- Possess a current Valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent, or have 2 years supplemental experience coaching or teaching swim lessons
- 300 yard continuous swim, front crawl or breaststroke or combination of the two
- 2 minutes treading water
- 25 yards of each of breast stroke, back stroke, and 15 yards of Butterfly
- Detail oriented with a critical eye
- Possess high levels of patience, control and composure of self in stressful situations.
- Comfortably perform all physical duties as outlined in the ARC WSI or equivalent curriculum or equivalent, including bending, lifting, and swimming, kneeling, sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable taking direction from leadership staff as it pertains to the job
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Ability to understand and follow rules, procedures, and directions; work independently as well as part of a team in a diverse community without prejudice towards religion, gender, socio-economic groups, sexual orientation, or other diverse groups

their Jewish neighbors. Camp Davis, established in 1930s, provides a day camp
experience for hundreds of school-age children each summer.
