Position Summary
The Marketing & Communications Director leads the strategic vision, brand governance, and multi-channel marketing execution for the Levite Jewish Community Center. This role drives public awareness, membership acquisition and retention, program enrollment, and donor/event engagement across diverse internal and external audiences.
As the organization's chief brand steward and lead storyteller, the Director bridges high-level strategy with hands-on creative execution. The Marketing & Communications Director partners with the Development Director on donor communications, campaigns, fundraising appeals, events, and stewardship. Working in close collaboration with executive leadership and departmental teams (Fitness, Aquatics, Early Childhood, Youth & Camp, Senior Services, and Events), this position directs compelling digital, print, media, and interpersonal communications that showcase the LJCC's impact, mission, and vibrant offerings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Marketing & Membership Growth
- Develop, direct, and execute an annual, multi-channel marketing and communications plan to increase organizational awareness, drive membership growth, boost program registrations, and support major fundraising initiatives.
- Partner with program managers and directors across the agency to define campaign goals, target key demographics, and deploy customized promotional strategies (e.g., Summer Camp registration, fitness challenges, preschool enrollment, signature events).
- Champion multi-channel initiatives designed to attract prospective members, deepen engagement, encourage retention and renewals, and communicate member value.
- Track, evaluate, and report on key performance indicators (website analytics, email conversions, social engagement, ad ROI, lead volume) to guide data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
2. Multi-Channel Content Creation & Digital Presence
- Personally design and produce eye-catching, on-brand graphics, promotional collateral, signage, photography, and short-form video content using modern creative tools.
- Maintain the LJCC's social media strategy (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) through an active editorial calendar, curating authentic day-to-day community stories, managing engagement, and running targeted paid campaigns.
- Oversee the LJCC website and mobile app--ensuring intuitive navigation, brand alignment, accurate program schedules, SEO optimization, and fresh landing pages for major campaigns.
- Plan, write, design, and deploy high-converting newsletters, targeted promotional e-blasts, and special agency announcements.
3. Public Relations, Media & External Outreach
- Cultivate relationships with local news publications, TV/radio outlets, and community partners to pitch stories and secure press coverage.
- Draft official press releases, media advisories, and executive statements; support leadership with crisis communications and strategic organizational messaging.
- Manage local community calendar listings, paid print/digital advertising placements, sponsorships, outdoor banners, and targeted direct-mail campaigns.
4. Brand Governance & Department Administration
- Articulate and safeguard the LJCC brand identity, voice, and quality standards, ensuring rigorous adherence to visual guidelines across all departments, print pieces, and digital touchpoints.
- Oversee the copywriting, design, proofreading, and production of physical collateral--including program guides, seasonal brochures, facility signage, annual reports, and direct mail--managing print vendor relationships and negotiations.
- Develop master project schedules, manage the departmental budget, and supervise/mentor creative contributors, contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard.

- Consistent growth in membership leads, program enrollments, and event attendance driven by targeted, strategic campaigns.
- An active, cohesive, and inspiring digital and physical footprint that authentically reflects community life, inclusivity, and vitality at the LJCC.
- Department heads feel championed and supported with clear project intake processes, transparent timelines, and effective promotional tools.
- Professional, polished, and unified messaging across every constituent touchpoint--from prospective members to long-time donors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications & Competencies
- 6+ years of progressive professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, digital content creation, or brand management. Proven experience in a nonprofit, community center, health/recreation facility, or mission-driven organization is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success operating at both a strategic level (planning, budgeting, campaign architecture) and the tactical level (designing graphics, shooting video, editing copy).
- Creative & Digital Competency:
- Advanced proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva).
- Hands-on experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
- Working proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Squarespace.
- Demonstrated skill in Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics (GA4), and digital ad placement.
- Strong technical skill in photography and short-form video shooting/editing for social platforms.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail, grammar, and brand voice.
- Superb organizational and time-management skills; comfortable managing multiple concurrent priorities, tight deadlines, and cross-functional teams with the flexibility to pivot seamlessly when plans shift and the composure to deliver high-quality work under pressure with a positive, collaborative attitude.
- Passion for the power of community to enrich lives, and a deep commitment to the mission and values of the Levite Jewish Community Center. Familiarity with Jewish cultural traditions, observances, and community life--or an enthusiastic willingness to learn--is preferred.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to capture content, manage media, or support major LJCC events (e.g., Jewish Food and Culture Fest, J'la Gala, Sam Lapidus Montclair Run).
