We are looking for dynamic, caring, qualified staff for the following positions:
UNIT LEADER: A Unit Leader oversees a specific age group as well as the Junior and Head Counselors in that group . A Unit Leader is there to help counselors who are possibly struggling throughout the day and making sure they are in contact with parents daily on how their child is doing throughout the day. This job does require to stay late somedays if issues arise within the group or you need to make phone calls to families. With this job you are part of the leadership team which also includes some Zoom and in person meetings prior to camp. It is an extremely rewarding job and something anyone majoring in teaching should pursue.
COUNSELORS: Head Counselors and Junior Counselors are assigned to each age group at Camp Deeny Riback. Head Counselors are typically college students and Junior Counselors are typically high school students. Counselors oversee a group of 10 -12 children throughout the entire day. From the moment campers get off the bus, Counselors are with this group going from activity to activity and are there for them throughout their day at camp. Counselors are effectively a big brother/sister making sure that the campers are safe and having a good time. Counselors delegate, resolve conflicts or misbehavior, and help each camper become the best version of themselves. We are looking for outgoing, responsible individuals who can help our community grow and give campers the summer of a lifetime.
CAMPER ADVOCATES: A Camper Advocate is a support counselor who provides one-on-one assistance to a camper who needs additional support to be successful at camp. This role requires a special sensitivity as to when to offer the child individual assistance, and when to allow the natural dynamics of the group instruction and interactions to assimilate the child into the group as part of a more spontaneous process. The balance of support and freedom within the context of the program is a delicate choice to be orchestrated by the Camper Advocate. Camper Advocates receive special individual training in addition to participating in the general staff orientation. Prior to the beginning of camp, the Camper Advocate will meet with the Camp Friends Supervisor to discuss the needs of the assigned camper. At this time, the Supervisor will discuss any social, emotional, behavioral and/or physical limitations the child may have and advise and discuss techniques to be used in meeting the needs of the child.
LIFEGUARD: Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe environment for all users. Lifeguards will also act as swim instructors. Swim instructors are responsible for instructing children in group and private swim lessons. Camp Deeny Riback follows the American Red Cross "Learn to Swim" program. Training and Certification will be provided. Lifeguards must be certified.
SPORTS SPECIALIST: A Sports Specialist must be able to develop and deliver sports program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers in either a variety of field sports or be specifically skilled in a specific sport which include hockey and mountain bikes in particular. The specialist must ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures and assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the sports program.
DRAMA SPECIALIST: A Drama Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing daily drama specialty activities for campers ages 3-12. The activities should be fun, age appropriate, and related to the weekly theme. The Drama Specialist is also responsible for planning and implementing the Camp Show for children ages 7-12.
NATURE SPECIALIST: A Nature Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing daily nature specialty activities for campers ages 3-12. The activities should be fun, age appropriate, and related to the weekly theme. The Nature Specialist is also responsible for the care of on loan animals that inhabit the nature pen.
SONG LEADER/MUSIC SPECIALIST: A Song Leader/Music Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing daily music activities for campers ages 3-12, and assisting with Friday Shabbat programming. The daily activities should be fun, age appropriate, and related to the weekly theme. The Song Leader/Music Specialist is also responsible for working with the Drama Specialist on the Camp Show and leading songs at large group activities and special events. Enthusiasm, energy and love of camp is a must!
KARATE SPECIALIST:A Karate Specialist must have a Martial Arts background and experience in youth supervision. Must have genuine interest in working with children.Must have experience in karate and be able to develop an appreciation for martial arts.The Karate Specialist plans, organizes and directs Karate for campers ages 3 1/2-14 years old, and teaches basic philosophy of karate and martial arts.
CERAMICS SPECIALIST: A Ceramics Specialist plans, organizes and directs ceramics activities through age-appropriate programming for campers ages 5-14 years old.
Transportation is provided from the JCC in West Orange to Camp Deeny Riback in Flanders.
