Afterschool at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco is dedicated to inspiring and empowering young people in grades K-5 to utilize Jewish values in the flourishing of their potential. Afterschool Assistant Teachers are essential members of our educational team, collaborating with other staff to support our HYC community in a myriad of capacities, including the transportation of children during transition time, classroom set-up, and facilitate clean-up, and provide general student support.
Ride the bus with assigned school group and take attendance, maintain bus rules and bus safety. Organize with school site when necessary.
Support intake of children from buses to classrooms or other intake areas.
Participate in the development of goals for the school year.
Support teachers in the implementation of educational activities and recreational activities that promote physical, mental, and social development.
Support teachers with the coordination and arrangement of supplies and space for Afterschool activities.
Maintenance, decoration, and clean-up of Afterschool facilities.
Consistently helping to foster classroom work routines, play routines, clean-up routines, and behavioral expectations.
Support teachers in the accurate tracking of attendance, the facilitation of class dismissals, and supervision at drive-thru.
Support in the coordination of daily snack for all children.
Learn and follow emergency procedures.
Monitor the health of HYC students and administer immediate health care if necessary
May be asked to substitute in a classroom when a teacher is absent
Knowledge, interest, and experience in working with children.
Units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred; transcripts required.
This is a part-time position (25 hours/week) with a generous benefits package.
Monday - Friday, 1:00pm to 6pm based on the regular San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) instructional calendar, with additional hours when available and approved.
Full days required on several SFUSD school closure days.
Additional hours required for family events include, but are not limited to: late-night duty, school early dismissal week hours, staff meetings, Shabbat Dinners, Showcases, and in-service trainings. A calendar will be provided.
