Principal Responsibilities:
The Riverdale YM-YWHA (Riverdale Y) is offering an exciting opportunity for a creative, energetic, highly-organized, and experienced informal or formal educator to coordinate its off-site Kid's Space Afterschool Program in Riverdale. If you are passionate about supporting school-age children through high quality programming and care in a community-oriented setting with a professionally-trained staff team, this is the right position for you.
Our Kid's Space off-site program is under the supervision of the Y's Family and Youth Services Department and works closely with Kid's Space @ Y in developing programming, coordinating school-vacation "camp" programs, and leadership training. It currently serves more than 160 children. This is a full-time position which reports to the Director of Family and Youth Services. The position is expected to begin in August 2021.
Job responsibilities:
- Oversee administration and management of Kid's Space off-site program with support from Director of Family and Youth
- Cultivate strong working relationships with faculty, staff, and parent association of off-site school location to create the highest quality afterschool programming
- Work closely with Director of Family and Youth to hire, train, and supervise afterschool counselors and instructors
- Work closely with Riverdale Y staff in developing recruitment and registration strategy and implementation
- Strategize, organize, and execute enrichment programming for Kid's Space participants as well as children seeking individual enrichment classes
- Recruit, plan for and help staff school-vacation "camp" programs for winter break, President's week, spring break and other school vacation days with the Camp, Family and Youth Department
- Recruit, plan for and help staff end-of-summer camps for agency during the last few weeks of the summer
- Manage the budget of the program
- Work with the Director of Family and Youth to maintain up-to-date permits, licensing and records for afterschool site
- Ensure proper customer service and follow-through for all families registered in or inquiring about afterschool and school-vacation camp programs
- Collaborate with the Director of Family and Youth to create complementary approaches and programming
- Recruit, register, and plan for upcoming year during the summer months
Job expectations:
This position is full-time, Monday to Friday, with occasional Sundays and holidays to support Kid's Space and Riverdale Y programs. Vacation is expected to be taken in July/early August. The option of a school-year or full-year position is available.

Minimum Qualifications:
Job Qualifications: The ideal candidate has strong experience in formal or informal youth settings. Candidates should possess the following qualities and experience:
- Warm and welcoming personality, relating well to children and able to partner confidently with parents
- Sound supervisory and people skills, including the ability to inspire, mentor and develop youth professionals with differing levels of experience as well as set clear boundaries and expectations
- Calm under pressure, customer service-oriented, flexible, and possessing a good sense of humor
- Ability to assess and strategize appropriate care for children based on the situation and to work with their families
- Ability to develop and implement creative, safe and challenging curriculum for children
- Ability to work collaboratively, as part of the Riverdale Y team, with colleagues, direct reports and supervisors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly-organized with attention to detail and follow-through, and the ability to multi-task
- Extensive administrative and planning experience
- Excellent computer skills and experience using social media to market programs
- Experience with budget development and administration
- Fluency with Microsoft Office or Google Apps
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Jewish Communal Service, or related field; SACC License ideal
- Knowledge of Jewish holidays, traditions and culture and the ability to integrate this into staff training and an age-appropriate afterschool curriculum preferred
