Principal Responsibilities:
SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of the Counselor in Training (CIT) program plays a vital role in supporting the growth and development of aspiring counselors. This role includes a combination of administrative duties, direct assistance to the CIT Director and CITs, and facilitating program activities. The Assistant is expected to demonstrate professionalism, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise, mentor, and actively engage CITs throughout their training and daily camp activities, providing consistent guidance and support
- Collaborate effectively with camp leadership, counselors, and staff to ensure seamless delivery of the CIT program
- Serve as a professional role model by demonstrating appropriate behavior and camp values for CITs and campers
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops, activities, and training sessions for the CIT program
- Act as the primary point of contact for CITs, addressing inquiries and referring them to the CIT Director as needed
- Conduct structured performance evaluations of CITs, tracking individual progress and providing constructive feedback to the CIT Director
- Maintain open and transparent communication, promptly reporting any significant issues or concerns to the CIT Director following established protocols
- Proactively propose and help implement innovative training strategies and activities
- Supervise designated areas, including free swim (3:00-3:40 pm) and bunk operations, conducting systematic individual check-ins with assigned CITs daily
- Support CIT logistics during off-site trips, ensuring accurate head counts and group safety at all times
- Collaborate with the camper support team and CIT Director on effective behavior management strategies
- Facilitate daily transportation logistics and assist with camp-wide operational needs
- Lead and co-coordinate four multi-day trips across two camp sessions
- Participate in scheduled administrative meetings and camp-wide planning sessions
- Ensure strict adherence to and enforcement of all camp policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:
- Previous experience in a summer camp or similar environment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of the developmental needs of youth.
- Ability to relate and build positive relationships with both youth and adults
- Willingness to follow instructions, give clear direction, and work effectively as a team member.
- Strong leadership and organization skills
- Willingness to work as a part of a team.
- Willingness to ask for assistance when needed and seek assistance as necessary
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment.
- Must be over 21 years of age
- A bachelor's degree in education or a related field is preferred
- Availability for the entire summer camp season is required
QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for periods of time and in the outdoor elements.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
