GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Prepare curriculum and teach classes for adults and children in both handbuilding and Pottery. Process student work, recycle clay, and maintain other studio tasks. Promote classes inside and outside the JCCSF to increase participation. Work with the Visual Arts Program Manager to create a warm and welcoming environment for all students and to maintain the studio as a safe, clean environment.
Work with Visual Arts Program Manager to create a cohesive curriculum for classes.
Arrive 15 minutes before start time of classes and be prepared to teach classes.
Teach classes on assigned days and times.
Remain in classroom until end of scheduled class time and clean up as appropriate.
Promote classes as appropriate.
At the start of each class session, make sure each student has registered for the class and assist with any registering difficulties.
Evaluate class materials needs and work with Art Program Coordinator to insure that class has adequate materials.
Create a warm and welcoming environment for the students in the class.
Assist Visual Arts Program Manager in maintaining the ceramics studio so that the studio is kept clean, neat and safe at all times.
Recycle clay, and load and fire kilns as needed.
Model behavior based on JCCSF working principles and customer service standards.
Have some knowledge of the JCCSF Mission, Jewish and Multicultural Philosophy, and Sheva Midot.
Understand safety and emergency preparedness procedures for the JCCSF.
Minimum of one year teaching experience in adult and children ceramics
Knowledge of ceramics including use of wheels, kilns and all ceramics-related materials.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
STATUS: Hourly, non-benefited position. This is a non-exempt position.
HOURS: Part-time(4-8 hrs/wk) as assigned. Daytime, weekend hours or evening hours. Must be available on Sundays.
