JCamp at Westside JCC offers camper experiences with chosen specialty tracks within a general day camp setting for campers ages 5 - 12. JCamp B'Ivrit is an ongoing program which consists of 2 four-weeklong sessions as a specialty track in our larger day camp program. The program is put on in partnership with Areivim/Kayitz Kef. The purpose of the program is to fully immerse children in a Hebrew language environment through a traditional camp experience. The goal of this program is to connect campers with Hebrew as a modern, spoken language and create an environment of excitement around speaking a new language for children of all experience and backgrounds. The Program Coordinator responsibilities include trainings and meetings throughout the months leading up to the summer part-time employee and then full-time seasonal employee for the eight weeks of the summer.
Program Dates: For summer 2022, JCamp is in session June 13 - August 19, 2022, with six days of staff training during the week of June 6-12, 2022. Time in advance of the summer will be required at estimated 6 hours a week between February 1 to May 31, 2022, for program planning meetings and counselor interviews and travel.Requirements:
Must be fluent in Hebrew
BA/BS required; MA preferred
Substantial knowledge of Jewish traditions and values
Flexible and able to handle multiple projects at the same time
Ability to function as a team player
Independent judgement, initiative, and strong planning, organized, budgeting, & administrative skills
Must be 21 years of age
2+ years of experience working with youth in a camp or other recreational setting
Proficient at computer skills and comfortable using MS Office
Able to work efficiently and independently
Experience in a leadership setting, preferably with elementary school-age children
Ability to interact with all age levels
Ability to make sound independent judgment and decisions when circumstances arise
Strong interpersonal communication skills including verbal and written communication in English and Hebrew
Ability to work with tight deadlines
Positive, upbeat, and enthusiastic about working with children
Adhere to all JCamp COVID19 protocols
