Minimum Qualifications:
What You'll Do: The Core of the Role
As the Director of Camp Interlaken JCC, you will provide year-round leadership, working closely with the Executive Director and JCC partners to ensure a mission-driven and financially sustainable operation.
Leadership & Management
- Provide strategic, year-round leadership for all camp activities and operations.
- Directly supervise and mentor the Assistant and Administrative Directors, fostering professional growth and a collaborative culture.
- Partner with the Executive Director on strategic planning, long-term development, and financial sustainability, including the annual operating budget.
Community & Engagement
- Serve as the chief ambassador for Camp Interlaken to families, alumni, lay leaders, and the broader community.
- Oversee all aspects of camper recruitment, enrollment, and retention, ensuring target goals are met and the community remains vibrant and inclusive.
- Manage parent communication with empathy and professionalism, addressing inquiries and sensitive concerns discreetly.
Program & Operations
- Guide the Assistant Director in staff hiring, training, and supervision, including the execution of robust pre-camp and on-site training programs.
- Oversee all aspects of camper and staff care, including health, wellness, and behavior management, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
- Ensure the camp's full compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) and health department accreditation and licensure standards.
- Coordinate with the Administrative Director on logistics, HR, transportation, and other operational systems.
Location & Work Environment
This is a year-round position requiring two distinct work locations:
- September - May (Off-Season): Work in person at the JCC in the Greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. This period is focused on planning, recruitment, and organizational leadership.
- June - August (Summer Season): Reside full-time on-site at Camp Interlaken in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
Please note this role involves some evening, weekend, and travel responsibilities for recruitment, professional gatherings, and JCC-wide events.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience in Jewish camping, youth development, or nonprofit management.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and leadership experience in Jewish camping or a related setting.
- Knowledge and passion for the North American Jewish community, the State of Israel, and Jewish history, traditions, and customs.
- Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to work effectively with staff and campers of all ages.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and public speaking skills; customer-service orientation with diplomacy and discretion is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to be a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented self-starter.
Ideal Candidates Will Also Have
- A strong track record in developing new initiatives and driving them from concept to execution.
- The ability to receive and provide constructive feedback in a growth-minded environment.
Salary:
$85,000 - $95,000
