STATEMENT OF THE POSITION

Within our framework of a holistic, strength-focused, and family-supported practice, an individual hired as the Community School Director in the High School and College Success division will report directly to the Community School Director at Queens Academy High School.

Position Details: Commonpoint Queens is looking to hire a Culinary Instructor/Sous Chef to lead classes for our Opportunity Youth and Adult Workforce programs.

Under supervision of the Senior Director of Culinary this Instructor will prepare, manage, and conduct training classes associated with the culinary field. This individual will also assist in managing a professional kitchen and oversee daily meal production.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide professional culinary instruction in Commonpoint's kitchen to both high school students, Opportunity Youth and Adult Workforce classes.
  • Prepare all learners for entry-level culinary jobs and Servsafe certification prep.
  • Provide daily tutoring and grading services in CMS such as Salesforce or other platforms
  • Inform stakeholders of all student learners progress on a regular basis
  • Provide superior customer service to every learner, colleague, and employer partner
  • Prepare lesson plans to ensure learners progression with materials
  • Assist with preparation of daily meals and manage kitchen in chef's absence
  • Assist with ordering, inventory, kitchen maintenance and kitchen upkeep as required.
  • Assist with on-going projects as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Culinary Degree
  • Servsafe Certification or New York City Food Handler's License
  • At least 3 years professional cooking experience.
  • At least 1 year experience as a sous chef or a similar role managing a kitchen
  • Experience teaching culinary skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain concepts in a simple manner
  • Knowledge of kosher laws a plus, but not required
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations
