Principal Responsibilities:

The Assistant Camp Counselor position with Camp J at The Roth Family JCC of Greater Orlando, a part of Shalom Orlando, supports lead counselors in creating an engaging, safe, and inclusive environment for campers. This role assists in implementing daily activities and helps maintain a positive camp atmosphere that fosters individual growth, builds community, and strengthens connections to Judaism, the Jewish people, and Israel.

Minimum Qualifications:

2025 CAMP SEASON DETAILS

• Dates: June 9-August 1, 2025

• Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-day program

• Training: Required attendance at orientation dates prior to camp start

• Commitment: Full summer season highly preferred

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Program Support and Implementation

• Support lead counselors in supervising camper groups and implementing daily activities

• Assist with leading games, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, and special events

• Help integrate Jewish and Israeli cultural activities into daily programming

• Prepare materials and spaces for activities, including setup and cleanup

• Support specialists during activity periods

2. Camper Care

• Build positive relationships with campers and assist in their social development

• Help monitor camper safety and well-being throughout all activities

• Support lead counselor with check-in/check-out procedures

• Assist in maintaining appropriate camper-to-staff ratios

3. Safety and Administrative Support

• Follow all camp safety protocols and emergency procedures

• Assist with daily attendance and record keeping

• Participate in required staff meetings and training sessions

• Help maintain organized and clean activity spaces

• Report any concerns or issues to lead counselor

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Experience

• Must be, at minimum, entering 11th or 12th grade in August 2025

• Experience working with children preferred

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to work as part of a team

• Enthusiasm for working with children

• Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions preferred

Physical Requirements and Certifications

• First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (must obtain before camp starts)

• Physical ability to participate in active games and sports

• Must be able to swim and required to be in the pool daily

• Capability to assist in lifting and moving supplies

• Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment includes significant time outdoors in various weather conditions during the camp season. Position requires mobility to move from activity to activity and the ability to participate in active games and sports. Must be comfortable in and around water, and able to work in various weather conditions.
