Principal Responsibilities:
JOB PURPOSE: Develop, lead, and schedule activities for the Youth Programs and serve as the Camp Director during the summer. Spend hands-on time with students and staff, getting to know them, and assisting staff with programming and behavior management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the JCare program which includes the after school program and the J All Days.
- Produce lesson plans that promote physical, mental, and social development through implementation of the Ohio State Learning Standards for Kindergarten - Eighth Grade.
- Manage scheduling of programs, including monitoring of student attendance and classroom student to teacher ratio. This includes all scheduled and unscheduled J All Days.
- Supervise and manage JCare staff and coordinate staff schedule weekly Serve as the direct point of contact for parents and guardians of students enrolled in the program.
- Manage the JCare cell phone while in the building to allow parents to communicate with the department in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with staff and families on any important information regarding the program.
- Assist the Director with the yearly calendar (including field trips) in advance for the program starting in August and with planning and implementing staff training/ professional development.
- Assist the Director to maintain all staff files and oversee all student records to ensure that all pieces are present and up-to-date for the Department of Child and Youth (DCY) and Step Up to Quality rating systems.
- Ensure that all medication in the classroom is recorded appropriately and that the staff are trained on how to administer medications and proper storage.
- Assist the Director with recruitment , conducting tours and orientations for potential students and their families, registration, and intake of new students.
- Serve as the Camp Director by running and managing the day to day operations of the ten week summer camp housed at the Youngstown JCC. Supervise all Camp j staff.
- Serve as the Primary resource for camp in order to recruit potential new and returning families
- Organize and execute pre-camp staff training and orientation with the camp leadership team.
- Mentor Senior and Junior Counselors as they work with their groups during activities and coach them through camper behavior challenges.
- Act as the main point of authority on behavioral and disciplinary issues with campers and staff.
- Serve as a role model for all campers and staff while participating in all required activities with an enthusiastic attitude. Be familiar with and enforce the personnel policies, safety rules, and regulations of camp to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs, referring problems to appropriate staff as needed.
- Keep records as required, including documenting all incidents, injuries, and behavioral issues.
- Plan and schedule for camp throughout the year. This includes but is not limited to field trips, enrichment programs, and daily schedules.
- Be available to the Youth and Camping Services Director to fulfill any additional duties which need to be performed to facilitate the effective operation of the total camp program.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and facilitate special events and programming for children, teens, and families. These events can occur in the evenings and/or the weekends.
- Coordinate with Facilities and Maintenance Manager to ensure a high level of cleanliness and appropriate maintenance of spaces used in accordance with all appropriate standards of health, safety, and licensing regulations.
- Purchase and maintain inventory, supervising the allocation of supplies and equipment as directed for J Care, J All Day, and/or Camp.
- Attend any meetings or events related to the youth program(s). Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies.
- Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with camp, school age children and teens, enjoy working with children and their families and have a high level of interpersonal communication skills. Ideal candidate has a lot of positive energy, a high level of organization, able to manage multiple projects at once, and experience with GoogleSuite and Microsoft Office. Candidates must pass an FBI/BCI background check and drug screen.
Salary:
$35,000 - $45,000
