The Sunrise Day Camp Association's mission is to do just that. Through our summer day camps, and innovative year-round programs, Sunrise brings smiles to the faces of nearly 6,000 children! Join us in helping children who are dealing with cancer return to childhood fun!

The Sunrise Association is seeking to hire a Director of Camp and Year-round programs for our Pearl River camp, now in its 7th year serving more than 300 campers and 170 families.

As one of our 9 summer day camps, and over 40 in-hospital programs, the Sunrise Association is affiliated with 32 major hospitals around the world. We are the only organization that offers full-summer day camps and year round programs (recreational and in-hospital) for children with cancer and their siblings, and all our programs are offered completely free of charge.

The Purpose of the role:

To further the mission of our organization through the development and management of Sunrise- Pearl River summer day camp and year round programs, while delivering high quality service to camper families and the camp community. In all areas, achieve standards of excellence set out by the Sunrise Association. This position reports to the Senior VP of Camping Services for the Association and supervises all programs, and program staff, in the region.

Summer Camp Responsibilities:

Oversee all daily functions necessary to operating an excellent full summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings based on the Sunrise Association model

Lead all camp planning, preparation and execution to ensure maximum safety and positive experiences for the campers and camp community; help create a culture of inclusion, care, and childhood fun

Work with hospital staff to implement a camper recruitment plan

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all seasonal and year-round staff and volunteers, which includes utilization of a camp management database

Develop and implement crisis and risk management procedures

Work with the local leadership team and parent agency in assessing challenging situations and opportunities to ensure a stronger program

Work with facilities director & site operators to ensure a safe environment for the operator

Set a positive and energizing, yet responsible tone and temperament for both campers and staff

Year-Round Programming Responsibilities:

Work with Sunrise staff to develop and manage outstanding year-round programming

Work with the development staff surrounding donor opportunities, including assistance with our annual Walkathon

Work closely with our medical team to provide a safe and healthy environment for the campers

Supervise all of Sunrise's programs in the region including our Sunrise on Wheels in-hospital programs, year-round Sunday Funday programming, and lead our summer camp operation

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

3-5 years experience working with children required (can be a combination of teaching and camping). We are seeking someone with exceptional attention to detail and organization skills, high energy, and the ability to communicate thoughtfully and clearly with campers, parents, medical professionals, and members of the community, while helping to inspire and work collaboratively with staff. Must display emotional intelligence and sensitivity. Must lead by example and possess the ability to multitask and problem-solve. We are seeking a leader who will dream with us!
