Camp Support Counselor

Principal Responsibilities:
Camp Support Counselors assist with mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH) support of J Camp campers, providing direct support under the direction of the Camp Care Coordinator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Guide staff in implementing positive behavior management strategies with campers.
- Actively participate in and supervise activities during J Camp, including in the pool. Join groups that need extra support.
- Interact with multiple groups and campers throughout each day.
- Maintain positive, professional interactions with staff and families while redirecting all personal concerns, requests for guidance, or support needs to the Camp Care Coordinator.
- Alert Camp Care Coordinator when a situation is out of the Camp Support Counselor's scope of practice.
- Confidentially document observations of camper behaviors, interactions, and needs, and share with the Camp Care Coordinator for guidance and support.
- Provide flexible support across multiple camp locations, in person, over the phone, and virtually.
- Immediately inform Camp Care Coordinator of any concerns that arise with campers, staff, parents/guardians, and/or community members.
- Communicate regularly with the Camp Director and other members of the Camp Leadership Team; share recommendations with the Camp Director on an ongoing basis.
- Actively participate in and supervise activities during J Camp, including in the pool. Join groups that need extra support.
- Act as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside of the SJCC.
- Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience: Experience and/or training working with children required. Registered Behavior Technician training or other similar behavior training preferred.
Other Skills: Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body. Openness to learning.
