The Bender Jewish Community Center is seeking positive, energetic, and professional Swim Instructors to provide high-quality swim lessons to our members and the broader community. The ideal candidate will ensure a safe, engaging, and educational environment for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Swim instructors are responsible for leading group, private, and semi-private lessons while promoting water safety and fostering a positive experience for participants and their families.
Core Responsibilities:
- Instructing, evaluating, and supervising all swim lesson participants.
- Ensuring the safety of the participant in their own class.
- Remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
- Submitting completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.
- Attending mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Acting immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
- Planning swim lessons and adapting activities based on participant needs
- Assisting in daily set up and clean-up of teaching areas and instructional equipment before students arrive.
- Leading activities while maintaining control over group, program, and equipment.
- Providing opportunities for each student to achieve success, including students with disabilities.
- Presenting professionally and maintaining a high standard of customer service.

You have:
- An age of 18 years or above preferred.
- Ability to lift children up to 40 pounds from water to side of pool.
- Ability to lead activities/skill sessions in the water for at least a half hour.
- Prior experience as a swim instructor.
- Desire and ability to work with children.
- Ability to teach swimming and water safety skills to children of varying ages and abilities, in an upbeat and effective manner.
- Visual and auditory ability to supervisor swimmers and to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
- Enthusiasm, patience, sense of humor, and self-control.
- Ability to perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a part-time, year-round position, with a rate of $15-20 per half hour private lesson or half hour group class. As a Bender JCC employee, you will receive an individual membership to the Bender JCC, including complete access to the entire fitness facility, pools, and group exercise classes.
