Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The Building Engineer is to maintain the JCC building equipment, keeping a high standard of maintenance, cleanliness and functionality throughout the property for all JCC owned building equipment. Inspects all systems to ensure everything is in good repair and use preventative & predictive techniques to ensure minimal down time. Complies with all jurisdiction codes, regulation and company directives for operations, using safe practices. Performs assigned repairs and/or oversees work performed by outside contractors. Perform daily building maintenance inspections Supervise, record, report, communicate and collaborate Understand the JCC emergency codes and responsibilities of staff to respond to emergencies Be aware of and report safety and maintenance concerns. Respond to biological emergencies is a timely manner. Maintain compliance with all JCC policies and procedures Support JCC sponsored events |
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent, previous experience in building support services preferred. Training is available and encouraged. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Must be able to read and understand mixing instructions for cleaning chemicals Must be able to cooperate, assist and support Ability to prioritize guest impact issues with maintenance duties. |
Physical Requirements: Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs |

Building Engineer
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL (ALL STAFF)
- Answer service requests and emergency maintenance requests as directed by the Facility Director.
- Be aware of safety and appearance concerns throughout the building and grounds at all times.
- Correct and report issues as they develop.
- Understand emergency codes and responsibilities of staff to respond to building emergencies.
- Seamlessly work with others in the facilities department and larger JCC team to execute completion of projects in a cooperative, kind manner.
Part 1: Position Summary
Serves as general building maintenance specialist. Responsible for performing a variety of skilled tasks in repair, adjustment, and maintenance of building systems, equipment and structures. Monitors and inspects the work of service contractors and assigned JCC evening staff.
Part 2: Supervision and Control over work
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Director who assigns work and responsibilities, delegates asset priorities. Employee is expected to independently perform assigned work only seeking the assistance of supervisor in unusual or difficult situation. Employee plans and performs assigned work with minimum of disruption of the JCC business environment.
Part 3: Major Duties and Responsibilities (Duties may include but are not limited to the following)
- Electrical - Performs preventative maintenance as assigned, replaces and limited repairs to lightbulbs, lamps, ballasts, re-sets electric panel breakers. Performs periodic inspection of exterior lighting for safety and security. Monitors fire alarms, security system and video cameras.
- HVAC - Performs limited preventative scheduled maintenance task of motors, fans, belts thermostats, filters, monitors equipment on a daily basis to insure all equipment is working as designed, and records and reports issues immediately.
- Janitorial - Maintain a high quality cleanliness throughout all spaces, public and private, at all times, to ensure health and comfort of all employees, members and guests. Learn to use Housekeeping equipment and maintain it for optimal performance.
- Events - Performs set ups, tear downs of furniture and audio visual equipment, insures support for each event as needed to provide a quality member/ Visitor/ Customer experience
- Pools - Performs pool chemical readings, monitors pumps, filters, screens and pool levels, know and understand how to add and or adjust controllers to maintain chemical balance with in state parameters
- Building Structure - Performs semi-skilled building repairs such as patching, painting, installations, roof repairs, concrete patching and repair to playground equipment. Maintains and repairs or replaces door locks, handles, panic hardware and closers,
- Plumbing - Performs limited plumbing repairs including unclog drains, replace and or repair water valves, patch and repair piping.
- Landscape - Performs limited repairs to sprinkler heads, valves and timers, maintains sidewalks keeping them free of debris and removes snow during winter months.
- Security - Performs nightly closing functions including locking doors, turning off lights and setting alarms.
- Transportation - Assist in management of the JCC fleet maintenance to keep all vehicles used in transportation of students safe, clean and functional.
Part 4: Qualifications
- Incumbents must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities. Or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill communicating with a diverse population
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Minimum three years of experience performing skilled work in multiple trade areas.
- Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction, sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential.
- Ability to operate various power tools and equipment; i.e. saws, drills, blowers, high pressure washers etc.
- Ability to work after hours to respond to emergency conditions.
- Must possess a valid Utah driver's license and a safe driving record and be able and willing to operate JCC owned vehicles.
Part 5:Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- While performing the duties of this job .the employee is frequently required to bend, crawl, sit, talk, move about, hear and speak. May be required to work in t restricted spaces, from a prone position, and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions. May be required to work at heights above ground level on roofs, or changing light bulbs. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions especially in emergency repair situations.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds or more the 60 pounds using appropriate equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to use properly safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.
Part 6: Other Duties as Assigned
- All responsibilities and duties listed in Section 2 though comprehensive are not conclusive. Other duties can and will be assigned as needed for the mutual benefit of the JCC organization, their attending members and visitors.
- A positive attitude and a sense a humor is required with this and all positions in the JCC organization.
