Principal Responsibilities:
The substitute teacher is called upon to deal with a variety of age groups and situations. The substitute must be able to quickly identify classroom needs and to adapt their interactions to meet the developmental needs of different groups of children. Above all else, a substitute must provide proper supervision of children at all times, and must maintain a nurturing environment for the children whose routines may be interrupted by a teacher's absence.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Help to execute developmentally appropriate learning experiences, classroom activities, and practices that promote the ideals and goals expressed in the Shalom Children's Center philosophy and mission
- Help to maintain the classroom space to provide safe and engaging learning opportunities that encourage children's participation
- Provide constant supervision of the children, and take care of their welfare, health and safety
- Engage in positive, developmentally appropriate interactions with children while setting appropriate limits, providing active listening, problem solving and positive redirection
- Implement classroom schedules and lesson plans as directed by the lead teacher
- Maintain compliance with all current North Carolina licensing and regulations
- Communicate with parents and guardians in a positive manner, providing timely information regarding their child's progress and activities

- Alignment with culture, values and mission of the JCC; works with others to achieve organizational goals
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- NC Qualifying Letter and criminal background check
- CPR & First Aid certification
- Experience working in an early childhood setting
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Experience implementing child-centered curriculum or a Reggio-Emilia/Emergent Inquiry approach strongly preferred
- Must be able to attend to needs of children ages infant - 5, including but not limited to: interacting with children, walking, standing, sitting on the floor, lifting up to 40 lbs, diapering
