Principal Responsibilities:
The Camp Specialist at The Roth Family JCC of Greater
Orlando, a part of Shalom Orlando, designs and implements specialized
programming in areas such as sports, art, drama, Jewish culture, and other
specialty areas for campers entering kindergarten through ninth grade. This
role creates engaging, skill-building activities that foster individual growth,
build community, and strengthen connections to Judaism, the Jewish people, and
Israel through meaningful experiences in their area of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications:
2025 CAMP SEASON DETAILS
- Dates: June 9-August 1, 2025
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-day program
- Training: Required attendance at orientation dates before camp start
- Commitment: The full summer season is highly preferred
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Program Leadership & Development
- Design and implement engaging activities appropriate for campers K-9
- Create a progressive skill-building curriculum that differentiates for various age groups and abilities
- Develop innovative programming that integrates Jewish values and traditions
- Plan and execute special events and showcase opportunities
- Evaluate program effectiveness and participant progress
- Submit detailed supply and equipment needs within designated budget and timeframes
2. Operational Management
- Follow established program schedules and rotations
- Maintain inventory and organize specialty equipment and supplies
- Ensure safety protocols are followed within the specialty area
- Document participant progress and program outcomes
- Maintain organized and safe program spaces
- Submit timely requests for program materials and supplies
3. Camp & Staff Collaboration
- Train and support counselors in activity implementation
- Coordinate with inclusion staff to adapt activities for all participants
- Contribute to camp-wide events and programming
- Partner with other specialists for cross-disciplinary activities
- Support counselors in extending specialty content to general camp activities
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills and Experience
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Demonstrated expertise in specialty area
- Previous experience teaching or leading youth programs
- Strong group management and teaching skills
- Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions helpful
- Relevant certifications in specialty area (if applicable)
Physical Requirements and Certifications
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (must obtain before camp starts)
- Physical ability to demonstrate and lead specialty activities
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Stamina to maintain active instruction throughout the day
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must be able to swim and may be required each day of camp
- Ability to manage equipment and supplies safely

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment varies based on specialty area and includes both indoor and outdoor spaces during camp season. The position requires the ability to move between different camp areas, lead group activities, and adapt to various weather conditions. Must be able to manage specialty equipment and maintain appropriate teaching spaces.
