Principal Responsibilities:
Job Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Aquatics, the Assistant Director of Aquatics is responsible to assist with planning, organizing, and supervision of Aquatic activities, safety, and maintenance of the Aquatics facility as well as the training and scheduling of lifeguards and other pool personnel. He/She directs Aquatics staff in the operation of pool equipment, and performs regular maintenance duties, when necessary, in accordance with the Department of Health and New York State law.
Minimum Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities, in coordination and consultation with the Director, include:
- Assist with developing, implementing, tracking, and overseeing the department programs.
- Assist with staffing, recruiting, training, hiring and evaluating lifeguards and swim instructors.
- Structure and help lead instructional swim in accordance with the Learn-to-Swim program.
- Supervise the pool area and ensure lifeguard staff are monitoring patrons and portraying professional behavior at all times.
- Ensure that the facility and operations comply with the New York State Dept. of Health Sanitary Code, for Swimming Pools, specifically as it pertains to operating, supervision, and maintenance.
- Develop relationships with members and program participants by obtaining regular feedback.
- Work closely with the Aquatics Director during summer camp programming.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including early morning, evening, and weekend hours to cover shifts in the absence of a lifeguard or instructor, and prepared to spend necessary time on site to ensure the pool is operating at its highest level.
- Complete other related duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.
Qualities and Qualifications:
- Ability to relate to and communicate well with clients and staff
- Committed to excellent customer service
- Comfortable in a hands-on, collaborative work setting
- Minimum three years in the aquatics industry
- Certified WSI or able to obtain within six months of employment
- Certified LGI or able to obtain within six months of employment
- Certified CPO or able to obtain within six months of employment
- Ability to lead and manage staff
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
Salary: $50,000-$55,000 (commensurate with experience), including the following benefits:

This is a full-time, in-person role, five days a week, with occasional evenings and holidays throughout the year.
