Principal Responsibilities:

The Culinary Arts Director is responsible for the overall curriculum planning, management and organization of all functions within the Teaching Kitchen including administrative tasks. This job requires planning and forethought; resourcefulness and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and effective communication are required. She/he must be skilled in teaching and making presentations to groups (of students/participants) and in explaining culinary techniques at fundamental to advanced levels.

She/he should be self-motivated and possess strong interpersonal and excellent customer service skills. The ability to function and act independently while at the same time working well with others in a team environment is crucial.

Job Responsibilities Include:

Assisting in the development of curriculum and teaching for daily cooking classes for children, families and adults, as well as specialty cooking workshops i.e. holiday cuisine, challah baking, Jewish ethnic cooking, etc.

Developing and teaching various Culinary Arts classes including preschool, after school and day camp programs.

Teaching cooking classes in an engaging and interactive way, promoting a positive learning environment with hands-on learning.

Being responsible for program administration, including assisting in scheduling visiting guest chefs/instructors and developing and implementing master program schedule.

Monitoring and growing enrollment/registration and retention.

Maintaining a sanitary and safe teaching/demonstration kitchen, following JCC Kosher protocols at all times.

Developing and managing Teaching Kitchen budget, managing expenses, food purchasing/costs and inventory within operational budget.

Assisting in management of kitchen facility/culinary studio and equipment to ensure proper working order and operation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three-four years' experience in culinary arts, at least 2 of which in an administrative setting; interest and passion for culinary arts; familiarity with culinary trends and food movements a plus

Knowledge of Kosher dietary guidelines and rules; experience cooking in a Kosher kitchen a plus

Bachelor's Degree or culinary school education

Proactive, organized, creative problem solver

Experience teaching culinary classes

Innovative, passionate, and excited to grow the Culinary Arts program

Strong organizational and communication skills; attention to detail, reflective demeanor

Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and social media tools

Strong customer service skills; ability to handle constituents with a helpful and calm demeanor

Full staff benefits package includes membership to the JCC. Schedule will shift based on culinary arts classes, 40 hour work week, with the ability to work nights and weekends on occasion.
