Summary:

The Associate Director is a full-time position that demonstrates leadership abilities by creating and maintaining a positive learning environment for staff and all families enrolled in the preschool. The Associate Director assists the Director in operating the center in accordance with JCC policies, procedures and state licensing standards to provide an educational, nurturing, and safe environment for children, staff and parents. This individual, along with the other Associate Director, is responsible for all school operations and assumes all Director responsibilities and duties in the absence of the Director. Meets expectations for delivering exceptional customer service to families enrolled at the school.

Responsibilities

  • Duties consist of assisting the director in running the day-to-day operations of the preschool and substituting for the director when necessary. The Associate Director should understand and comply with the center's rules, as well as state and federal laws and regulations, maintain records of the building's administration in accordance to federal, state and local laws. The position prepares summary reports for the center and processes inspection and accident reports. The associate director should be familiar with the procedures of reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protective Services Also, in the absence of the director this position will manage all issues and concerns from parents/guardians, conduct parent (guardian) meetings and conduct center tours. The Associate Director will assist in the building and management of the annual budget.
  • The Associate Director will be a secondary supervisor for the preschool's teachers and staff, with the primary supervision being that of the director. The Associate Director may be part of conducting interviews, as well as hiring and terminating staff when necessary. The position should maintain files of all employees at the preschool and monitor and observe staff performances and appearance. The Associate Director can contact substitute staff when needed, organize staff shifts, coordinate meetings, teach training sessions and take daily attendance rosters.
  • The Associate Director must be CPR and First Aid certified or has the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within three months of employment as the associate director. The position much also obtain and maintain a MAT (Medication Administration Training) certification.
  • The Associate Director must be able to perform a variety of computer-based tasks to include but not limited to creating spreadsheets, preparing power point presentations, ability to calculate payroll data such as time worked, leave time, and pay differentials as needed. Also, the assistant director must be able to create documents, maintain calendars and track deadlines.
  • The person must have physical strength to lift and carry children and other items weighting up to 50 lbs. and have the use of arms, hands, legs and feet without any problems. The individual must be a self-starter who has the ability to make good judgments for the sake of the center, and is reliable and trustworthy. The assistant director must also possess customer service skills such as handing telephone calls.
  • The Associate Director will plan and coordinate field trips, assist staff with developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education, help manage behavior issues when they arise, participate in and take a leadership role in staff meetings and center wide events.
  • The Associate Director will manage the purchasing of all supplies and materials and coordinate with other Associate Director.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Provide tender, responsive, quality care, addressing children's needs.
  • Create a positive, warm, individualized, nurturing, environment for children; encourage inquiry and open ended thought.
  • Consistently treat children with dignity, respect and compassion.
  • Create a safe, healthful and secure environment for all children and faculty members. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Promote the equitable, fair and consistent treatment of all staff members, parents, and children.
  • Promote, administer and improve the organization's goals, philosophies, policies and mission statements.
  • Provide a safe environment for all children in the school by keeping them in sight and sound at all times.
  • Participate in all training programs, conferences, seminars, courses and other aspects of professional growth and continuing education provided by the JCC and other outside resources
