Principal Responsibilities:

The Mandel Jewish Community Center seeks applicants for its Program Director position at Camp Wise. Founded in 1907, Camp Wise is a 375 bed overnight camp located in Chardon Ohio with a reputation as one the premier Jewish resident camps in the country. The Program Director is part of the year-round professional camp management team that creates a vision for, designs, and implements the Camp Wise experience for campers, camper families, staff members, and alumni. The Program Director assists in the overall management of camper recruitment and retention, year-round programming, training and development. This position requires full time residence at Camp Wise during the summer months and for specific programming during the winter.

Essential Functions:

  • Understand the mission and goals of the Mandel JCC and Camp Wise.
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and staff members year-round.
  • Participate as an active and positive member of the MJCC staff team.
  • Model and implement the Jewish values of the Camp Wise mission.
  • Create and maintain a strong, positive Camp Wise presence in the communities served by the MJCC for the purpose of attracting new families, retaining returning families, and meeting annual registration goals.
  • o Coordinate administrative and marketing functions for all camper recruitment, including camp fairs, community events, synagogue and school presentations, and home visits.

    o Plan and implement Camp Wise engagement events including reunions, winter overnights, Alumni reunion, Women's Weekend, Family Camp, Family Fun Day, etc. for the purposes of engagement, retention, and recruitment.

    o Maintain an engaging and interactive online presence for current campers, including the Camp Wise website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

  • Develop a camp program that challenges and excites campers while teaching them new skills through well-planned and creative programming.
  • o Provide oversight for all camp programs, including Maccabiah, rainy day, programming, evening programming, and other special events.

    o Schedule all necessary program area trainings and inspections to ensure all specialists have the appropriate certifications to run assigned areas.

    o Oversee the development of, manage, and maintain all summer program schedules to ensure the smooth operation of the day-to-day summer camp program.

    o Manage schedule for all day camp partnerships and any other visiting groups during the summer months.

  • Ensure the best possible care for each individual child at Camp Wise.
  • o Communicate with parents as appropriate and necessary.

    o As part of the summer senior management team, oversee the well-being and care of all campers and staff.

  • Supervise summer program area supervisors and program team.
  • o Participate in the day-to-day management and operation of summer program.

    o Manage and maintain program areas, equipment, and inventory as required by the Geauga County Board of Health and ACA Standards.

    o Create and implement a system for all purchasing including pre-camp program area purchasing, camp gear and swag, and in-season program supply requests.

    o Conduct performance reviews and evaluation of summer supervisory staff members in program areas.

  • Act as On-Site Coordinator for rental groups.
  • Attend professional development conferences and programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Recreation, Jewish Studies, Psychology, Social Work, or Business.
  • Three years of experience in program management in a camping or similar environment.
  • Strong presentation, leadership, and motivation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media applications like WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Jewish culture, heritage, and traditions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to both children and adults.
  • Proven writing and interpersonal communication skills.
