Principal Responsibilities:

ABOUT SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SYEP)

The NYC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation's largest youth employment program, connecting New York City youth between the ages of 14 - 21 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is important for low-income youth who may face multiple barriers to obtaining early work experiences. Youth benefit from workforce development programs that offer hands-on exposure paid internships and work experience, access to jobs skills training, and opportunities to develop social, civic, and leadership skills. Additionally, developmentally appropriate, robust work experiences can help promote a college-bound culture and build useful transferable competencies such as leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The SYEP Program Director is responsible for the effective and successful management of the overall program. This position directs and ensures that activities are conducted in full compliance with the specifications of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and provides detailed guidance and leadership to the SYEP staff. The SYEP Program Director serves as the liaison among the Y and Community Development, DYCD, youth employees/participants, and worksite personnel, coordinating resources to best serve SYEP stakeholders. She/he oversees the day-to-day supervision and operation of the SYEP.

As part of the Y's Youth and Family team, the SYEP Director for Older Youth will be working in collaboration with Afterschool, Camp, Inclusion, Education, Jewish Life, HR, Enrichment, SYEP Younger Youth, and other staff members.
